Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Dermatologic Salon
A dermatologic salon combines the hair care knowledge of a natural hair professional with the medical expertise of a dermatologist specializing in hair loss. By approaching hair loss and scalp health with a combination of wellness and medicine, we are able to detect and treat concerns early, maximizing the impact of restorative efforts. Clients not only have access to Susan’s hair care-centered techniques but are also able to schedule intervention appointments with our in-house dermatologist, Dr. Kindred, for medical treatment of various scalp concerns and forms of alopecia.
What If I Don’t Have Hair Loss?
With hair loss affecting 85% of men and 33% of women at some point in their lives, it’s always beneficial to be under the care of a stylist who can spot the early signs of hair loss and make adjustments to minimize damage.
Even if you are not actively experiencing hair loss, our preventative focus prioritizes our clients' hair and scalp health. By monitoring signs of dryness, texture changes, and breakage, we provide custom treatments while keeping an eye on any potential hair loss that may develop in clients.
Why is My Hair So Dry?
Even though many of us use moistures and oils, we may still experience dry hair. This is often because of improper use of moisturizing products without the use of water. This highlights the importance of our new client consultation, to ensure products are being used correctly to maximize their benefits for your hair.
My Scalp is Burning and Itching. Is That Normal?
Burning and itching of the scalp is often a common sign of inflammation, often associated with scarring forms o alopecia, which can damage the hair follicle and lead to permanent hair loss. Any burning, itching, or pain related to the scalp is a warning sign and should be taken seriously and reviewed by a hair loss specialist or dermatologist immediately.
My Hair Texture Has Changed Recently. Why?
While it is true that our hair texture changes as we age, early forms of scarring hair loss can cause a texture change due to the hair’s follicle being damaged by inflammation. If the texture change is localized to your crown and accompanied by burning or itching, consult a hair loss specialist or dermatologist immediately.
